Reminders for the upcoming Week

Culture Week: Next week will be Culture Week at Center to get ready for the upcoming Olympics of the Mind competition. Each day will connect to our SPARC culture principles of Spirit, Academic Excellence, Respect and Collaboration. Here a breakdown of what to expect.

Monday (Spirit) - “Bamma Day”
Tuesday (Respect) - Character Day (Dress up as your Favorite Cartoon Character, Superhero, Poet, etc..)
Wednesday (Academic Excellence) - Office/ “Dress-up day” Come to Center looking professional.
Thursday (Collaboration) - Twin Day
Friday- SPARC Day!! Olympics of the Mind!!
Saturday- Ward 6 Family Fun Day!!

College Field Trip Medical Field trip Release Forms: All medical release forms are due by Monday, July 26th. Please be sure to get these permission slips in to Mr. Sam or Ms. Moraya by this date. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.


Science Fair: Families, the Science Fair is right around the corner. Please check with your scholars to ensure they are completing their Science Fair projects. Also any resources you can provide for them in completing these projects are encouraged. The Science Fair will occur on Wednesday, July 28th from 11am-12pm in the Center City PCS Gym. Come out and see the scholars’ amazing science fair projects; come celebrate their work and show your pride. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Portfolios: Many scholars have begun work on their Higher Achievement portfolios. These portfolios consist of 3 items that scholars have completed this summer; each work is accompanied by a brief reflection sheet. Portfolios can be added to the back of a scholar’s binder, or contained in a new binder. Please encourage scholars to share their portfolios with you. All portfolios need to be completed by July 28, 2010.

Olympics of the Mind: Come out and support the Ward 6 Scholars as they compete at Hammond Middle School for our annual Olympics of the Mind Competition. This event is going to be a blast, so I hope to see you all there.

Ward 6 Family Fun Day Reminder: The Ward 6 Achievement Center invites our families out to our 2nd annual Family Fun Day. We would love to have you all join us at Six Flags Amusement Park on July 31, 2010, from 11:00am-3:00pm.The cost of admission is $35 and for season pass holders it’s $13.00. This cost includes lunch which will be served in a reserved picnic area for Higher Achievement families. This is a great opportunity to come out and meet other families and scholars, and to relax with the rest of the Higher Achievement team. Please look for these information sheets and forms to arrive on Monday, July 19th. In order to help ensure this trip is successful, we encourage families to carpool to the park. Transportation is not provided. This is a great opportunity to give back and support our work at Center. We do hope you can make it to the park and continue to strengthen the relationships that support our work with your scholars. All payments must be received by Monday July 26th .
