Weekly Update for the Week of 10/4-10/8

Supplemental Work: Parents, in an effort to provide you more information about the resources we use to support scholars, I will be posting the supplemental work created by the achievement coaches on the blog. You can find it on the sidebar under “Supplemental Resources.” Please feel free to print off copies or ask scholars to bring home the supplemental work to review with them. I encourage all families to review the weekly supplemental; it’s a simple and great way to stay connected to the areas we are attempting to bolster with each scholar.

Weekly Challenge:
Each week, I issue a challenge to scholars and families in our Community Meeting Sheet. This week’s challenge focuses on writing and the scholars’ ability to summarize. In celebration of Geography Month, here is this week’s challenge:

Interview someone who has lived in another country about their experience. Following the interview, write a summary detailing their most memorable experience from their time abroad. Interview sheets can be provided upon request. Parents, scholars, and mentors are encouraged to participate.

Monthly Parent Meeting: Please clear your calendars for our upcoming Parent Meeting for the month of October. On October 28th the Parent Advisory Council will be sponsoring in the first of a series of monthly meetings. In an effort to consolidate we will be meeting on the following topics from 7-7:45. Following the meeting, we will celebrate the September and October Birthday’s. Any parents wanting to contribute to this celebration are welcome to do so. On a side note, Ms. Moraya and Mr. Sam both celebrate their birthdays during this month as well.

Scholar Achievement Plans- This is Higher Achievement’s individualized support plan for scholars who need extra help in various areas. Though you will likely get calls from your scholars’ achievement coach, and review our weekly Achievement Sheets, parents who want to collaborate on ways to address their scholars’ areas of need should attend this meeting to help us cultivate a thorough Scholar Achievement Plan.
